What is Full Colour 3D Printing?

Full Colour 3D Printing by Mimaki is able to reproduce more than 10 million vibrant and beautiful colours.

The 3DUJ-553 Mimaki 3D printer utilizes UV-curable inkjet printing to create fine texts and images with smooth surfaces. The 3D printer performs modeling with UV ink (CMYK, White, Clear) printing, curing and piling layer by layer using an inkjet method.

Hence, coloring is not by post processing but by modeling with color inks, which can produce an object of exquisite full color representation.

Additionally, superior color representation is achieved by using color profiles.

The difference is obvious in comparison to the traditional plastering method. During plastering, controlling ink placement is difficult due to the fact that inks are cured after penetrating into plaster particles. However, when using the Mimaki 3D printer, the industrial machine precisely controls placement of ink droplets. Furthermore, this method of 3D printing by Mimaki sees no ink bleeds at the edges, unlike the plaster method. Therefore, the accurate recreation of delicate textures is possible.

In addition, post processing like over coating and attachment of screws are also possible with full colour 3D printing.

3D Printing Processes

FDM

FDM

Short for Fused Deposition Modeling, FDM is one of the most commonly adopted additive manufacturing technologies today due to its low cost and efficiency.

SLA

SLA

Great for products that require a smooth finish and high accuracy. SLA is also a popular choice for creating prototypes for clear parts, including bottles.

Polyjet

Polyjet 3D Printing

Capable of printing multiple materials from flexible to rigid in one part. 3D prints at a high speed, with extremely high accuracy and a smooth surface finish.

SLS

SLS is a powder-based 3D printing technology suitable for building parts that require high durability and complex geometries as it does not need any form of support.

MJF

MJF 3D Printing

Similar to SLS, Multi Jet Fusion also utilizes powder to 3D print objects. One advantage is that parts produced by MJF are stronger and more precise compared to SLS.
