Polyjet is an industrial liquid based 3D printing technique that builds parts with photopolymer resins. During its printing process, a carriage jets photopolymers onto the work space, which are then cured by a UV light. After creating a thin layer, the process repeats itself by jetting additional layers until it finally forms the part.
The technology is similar to Stereolithography (SLA) as they both use the same resins.
However, SLA uses far more heat than PolyJet, which uses lower temperatures and UV light to cure the resin. Furthermore, SLA uses UV lasers to cure patterns cross-section by cross-section, while the latter uses fine printhead nozzles to dispense droplets of photocurable liquid material onto a build tray in layers as fine as 16 microns. The material is simultaneously cured as it is deposited via UV light to form a 3D object.
Another difference between SLA and Polyjet is in terms of curing. SLA parts are not fully cured, and require additional curing in a UV oven. On the other hand, parts by the latter are already fully cured.
One feature that sets Polyjet apart is its support material. The technology utilizes a soluble support material that dissolves away in a water based solution. Therefore, it has the ability to print intricate details and clean off the support without risking damaging the part.
Polyjet is one of the fastest 3D printing technologies, capable of printing parts within a five-inch cube in as little as two hours. It is also able to achieve a smooth surface finish right off the build.
VeroClear is a transparent material that simulates PMMA (polymethyl methacrylate), commonly known as acrylic. Like PMMA, VeroClear is used as an alternative to glass and is ideal for concept modeling and design verification of clear parts such as eyewear, light covers and medical devices.
The multi-purpose Vero photopolymers offer strength, stiffness and versatility. Vero combines excellent detail visualization with strength, a key component in realistic prototypes. Produce smooth, accurate prototypes, surgical models, moving and assembled parts, jigs, fixtures and manufacturing tooling.
Short for Fused Deposition Modeling, FDM is one of the most commonly adopted additive manufacturing technologies today due to its low cost and efficiency.
Great for products that require a smooth finish and high accuracy. SLA is also a popular choice for creating prototypes for clear parts, including bottles.
Capable of printing multiple materials from flexible to rigid in one part. 3D prints at a high speed, with extremely high accuracy and a smooth surface finish.
SLS is a powder-based 3D printing technology suitable for building parts that require high durability and complex geometries as it does not need any form of support.
Similar to SLS, Multi Jet Fusion also utilizes powder to 3D print objects. One advantage is that parts produced by MJF are stronger and more precise compared to SLS.
